After many complaints over the years, Microsoft has been working on cleaning up the search in Windows. They have removed the promotional content, made it easier to find local files along with a much better preview pane, and the ability to remove the web and Microsoft Store results. These changes have been asked for by users for a long time and it’s nice to see them finally incoming. For now, they are directed to Windows Insider builds, but will hit the main builds sometime in the near future.
Today, we’re rolling out several improvements to Windows Search Box available to Windows Insiders in the Experimental channel. These improvements are gradually rolling out via Controlled Feature Rollout so not all Insiders will see them right away. You can reboot to see if you receive them today. They are also available via feature flags.
